How about the good ol’ “no start” checklist?

“Nothing” - Literally nothing at all. No lights, no sounds, no movement. No indication that a key has been turned or a button has been pressed.

“Cranks” - Starter engages flywheel and turns the rotating assembly.

“Turns (or turns over)” - Rotating assembly rotates. It is not seized and can be rotated by wrench or by starter motor.

“Fires” - After cranking, combustion happens and the car actually starts, even if only for a moment.

“Runs” - Continues to “fire”, under its own power without the start engaged.

I wish I had a nickel for every time someone told me it “does nothing”, leading me to suspect a battery connection or fuse, or claimed it “won’t turn over” when it definitely does...
